98.6 charivari

Across the historic region of Franconia, particularly within the greater Nuremberg metropolitan area, 98.6 charivari delivers a vibrant program focused on local information and a distinctive music mix. Broadcasting primarily on 98.6 MHz FM, this German-language station also reaches listeners via DAB+ on frequency block 10C and through cable networks. The station's musical identity largely centers on popular entertainment music from the 1980s and 1990s, complemented by current hits and selections from the 2000s, offering what it calls "Echte Abwechslung für Franken" (Real variety for Franconia).

First launching under the name Charivari on December 3, 1986, it was notably the second private broadcaster in the region to begin transmissions, initially having operated as "Neue Welle Franken" in the cable network since February of the same year. Until May 2001, the station shared its terrestrial frequency during weekend afternoons with the niche provider Radio Aladin, a unique arrangement in its early history. Beyond its main broadcast, 98.6 charivari extends its offerings with specialized online channels like "Discomania" for dance music and "Chillout" for a more relaxed sound. Targeting a listenership between 35 and 59 years old, with a core demographic of 40-49, the station keeps its audience informed with local news segment "Franken Live".
