Yunque 93

Emerging onto the airwaves on December 29, 1994, Yunque 93, operating as WYQE 92.9 FM, quickly established its roots in Puerto Rico's eastern region. Licensed to Naguabo, the station was conceived to deliver a vibrant tropical music format tailored to the local Spanish-speaking audience. From its inception, it focused on genres such as salsa, merengue, bachata, balada, and urban music, creating a rhythmic soundscape that resonated across communities like Fajardo and Humacao, extending its reach towards the San Juan metropolitan area. The station's name, "Yunque 93," pays homage to the majestic El Yunque National Forest, the sole tropical rainforest within the U.S. National Forest System, solidifying its deep connection to Puerto Rico's natural and cultural heritage. It transitioned from its initial branding, "Anvil 93 The Musical Force East," to its current identity, asserting its position as a dominant voice in eastern Puerto Rico. The programming is characterized by contemporary adult Spanish content, often featuring "songs of the memory" that evoke personal stories among listeners.
