RMF FM

Broadcasting adult contemporary music and up-to-the-minute news, RMF FM stands as Poland's first commercial radio station. It began transmissions on January 15, 1990, from Kraków, initially operating as Radio Małopolska Fun and breaking the state broadcasting monopoly of the era. The station quickly expanded its reach, evolving from retransmitting French Fun Radio content to producing its own comprehensive programming, including the popular "Fakty RMF FM" news segments and the daily "Poplista" music chart. RMF FM is owned by Grupa RMF, a subsidiary of the German Bauer Media Group, which acquired the station in early 2007. Its extensive network of 59 transmitting stations ensures national coverage, reaching an estimated 36.3 million people across Poland. The station maintains a strong presence in the Polish media landscape, consistently ranking as a market leader with a high listenership share. Beyond its core music and news offerings, RMF FM also features journalistic programs, interviews, and special reports. The station has historically been at the forefront of major events, with its journalists being the only Poles broadcasting from Baghdad during the 1998 Persian Gulf crisis and providing extensive coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II in 2005.
